my coolest dive is definitely the manta ray night dive I went on in Hawaii this past summer :D

We used giant spotlights to attract plankton for the manta rays to eat and we had 3 12 ft ones come! They do these really awesome flips as they near the surface and literally brush over your shoulders. It was such a neat experiance [also was my first night dive :)]

Oh, goody! My first night dive would be it. The Town Pier, Kralendijk, Bonaire. You go underneath the pier so there are all these pilings encrusted with corals and sponges. I'd been having trouble with my ears, and so was examining the upper pilings so I could be shallow. All of a sudden, I shined my light on a purple tube sponge--and a little face nodded at me! It was a miniscule octopus. I tankbanged everyone over, and one guy started taking pictures. I put my hand on the tube sponge to steady it. Finally, the octopus decided he'd had enough, drew himself out of the sponge's opening, and crawled himself down the sponge...right over my hand.

That was also the first time I saw a seahorse. And hunting tarpon. And a few sleeping sea turtles. GOOD DIVE. ;-)

'Twas awesome! If you get a dive master who knows the area, they can often tell you where to find the seahorses.

I saw two seahorses, 1 yellow and the other white while diving in Bali. I missed them on the first dive as I had to do a safety stop. Requested the dive master to show me those seahorses during my second dive and she did. So cool seeing them moving around gently. Have yet to see manta rays. Hoping to have a manta tour soon.

MANTAS! I actually did see a wild manta once, though not on a dive, and I really wasn't expecting it!! I was hanging out on the beach in North Carolina, buggy boarding like the landlubber I am, and out of nowhere a manta ray did a friggin' flip about seven feet in the air right in front of me. Me and this guy I was with were like, "Whoa...did that just happen?" But I'm fairly certain it was a manta. Really, really startling. We go to the seaside every year at that same spot, and in the week we're there we see an unprecedented amount of wildlife just watching the waves. Dolphins, mantas, I nearly stepped on a stingray...

Okay I just had to write and talk about my FIRST TWO OCEAN DIVES (thus being my coolest dives) I was recently certified (as I've said before) and my dad and I just went and finally did our ocean dives. It was absolutely amazing. We went to the Nassau to do them and it was pretty much the coolest thing ever. There were SO many ship wrecks (one being the set for Into the Blue) and tons of fish. The visibility was amazing (I guess I'm just so used to the muck water here) and there were SHARKS!! :shark2: OMGOSH IT WAS AMAZING! They were Caribbean Reef Sharks and it was amazing. (I know I'm repeating myself but it WAS!) Our leader told us that there was a feeding boat not too far off and they rarely saw them but they were down there. I was scared at first but when I got down there I was amazed at how natural it all felt. They just...swam. :P They were just fish and they didn't pose any threat. They were about 4-5 ft although while I was down there they seemed like 2 ft. lol I guess it shows how relaxed I was. It was cool too 'cause there were fish swimming on their backs just like the documentaries...my gosh it was awesome. : )

anyway, thanks for letting me ramble. I'm sure some of you guys have swam with much larger and scarier then that. Anybody have any stories? Is it always so natural swimming with 'em?
