It's a challenge. The best way it to listen to other people say them. And honestly, everyone has a little different way of saying things. If you have particular ones you're very curious about, post them here, and we'll see if we can tell you how we think its pronounced. :)

The other day I was trying to read up about Chilopoda and mullisk. I was wondering how you say some of the names of species from those family trees. :squid:

I always pretend they're dinosaur names. It becomes easier. Have a go and tell me how you do. :)

urochordata = YER-oh-kor-DOT-uh

ostracoderm = OSS-truh-kuh-DERM

crossopterygian - I have heard people say this two ways. It is really two parts put together, "crosso" + "pterygian" so the p should be silent. I would say it "CROSS-oh-ter-IH-gee-uhn"

A good way to learn how to say these names is to look at the origin of the words, which is usually Greek or Latin. You will see things lots of them recurring. Any time you see "-poda" (it means "foot), like in "Gastropoda", you always pronounce it "POH-duh"

Can't say I've seen that one before - what is its context? What group of animals is it from?
