New postby samanthashepherd » March 1, 2010 - 10:43 am

Right now I have 12 credits for my associate degree. I want to work with endangered animals and Marine life. I want need to start this online schooling because snow is bad right now and no car. I need a school online that has what I need. What kind of Associates degree do I need to get that would work for the degree that I want to get. I am not even sure what the title would be for the degree that I want. Because it is not just Marine Biology it is also wildlife Ecology? If I am thinking right. Is that what program I would want or would I have to take 2 different degrees one ins Marine wildlife and one in other wildlife. If someone could help me out I would be more then great full. If you know of an online school with what I need please please reply to this with the link or something. I hope to hear from you all very soon. Have a wonderful day. God bless each and every one of you.

Hi and welcome Samantha! If your goal is to work with endangered animals and marine life then marine conservation biology or just conservation biology would be something to look for for your first degree on http://marinebio.org/MarineBio/Careers/US-schools.asp (though any biology degree should allow you to work with endangered animals IF you can find an opening). What I would do is search the big job sites and especially state and federal job sites for wildlife-related positions (and look at the qualifications of personnel working at those places) and work backward (expect it to take some time and don't rush it). Many will have Masters or PhDs so that'll be something to consider but many won't either. The next thing is to look into local groups you can volunteer or intern with to get your hands dirty and the experience to help you make decisions going forward. Once you decide on your initial path then you need to decide on which college to apply to and start talking to them asap. Lastly, take only online classes now that will transfer when you transfer. Ask the colleges you might go to about each class you're taking online and whether they will transfer. Do not only ask your online school as they might guess or simply lie.

I hope that helps, it's what I would do I believe...

"Extending a sea ethic would mean recognizing the ocean’s importance to the continued existence of life on our planet and to human futures. From this recognition would flow an appropriate sense of moral imperative, commitment, and urgency—urgency toward ending overfishing and wasteful bycatch and aggressively rebuilding depleted ocean wildlife populations, stabilizing human effects on world climate, slowing habitat destruction, stemming global transport and accidental introduction of "alien" species, curbing the flow of contaminants and trash, developing sustainable seafood farming, cultivating an informed approach to the seafood marketplace, and implementing networks of protected areas in the sea." - Dr. Carl Safina

yes that does help. I was going to take general studies thought that would be best because it gives you all the things you need or a science associate class or something like that.
